Welcome to Shropshire Scout County, UK Minimize

Welcome to the Official Shropshire Scout County Portal - the gateway to Scouting in Shropshire, United Kingdom. Salopia.Org is named after our famous International Scout and Guide Camps.

Please note that as of April 2008 we are aware that Scoutbase has incorrect booking information for The Wrekin Campsite. Whilst we await for Scout HQ to amend these details the correct booking secretary and warden information is shown below. You can also speak with any of the three District Commissioners of Shropshire who can provide localised information concerning the site and whats available in the area. The Commissioner for Tern Valley who lives close to the site can also provide information and is available for site inspections of camps and often does turn up unannounced for a cuppa.

Wrekin Campsite 2008

Are you planning a camping break? Then why note book Shropshire County Scouts very own woodland campsite situated on the historic ironage hill fortress of the Wrekin, one of the landmarks of Shropshire and the UK.  Viewed here is the autumn leaves at the site:

For more pictures from the Wrekin, visit the Gallery pages on this website and browse yourself. Play/Sports areas, abseiling, campfires, hill walking, nature trails, archery range, purpose built chapel, ironage burial mounds on the hill. Short drive to Historic Shrewsbury and Cadfael Country, and Ironbridge with the World Famous Thomas Telford Iron Bridge crossing the Severn, minutes away from Telford, Birthplace of Industry and the market town of Wellington,

There has never been so much history and adventure available to Scouts from a woodland campsite.

Also - how many campsites are now stopping Scouts from practising traditional backwoods skills - not the Wrekin. Bring your Scouts here and keep the 'out' in Scouting.

Fancy a survival camp? Then the Wrekin Campsite is the place for you.

After all this you may want to wash and relax in a hot shower! The Wrekin Campsites most prized secret - it has hot showers - people just forget they are there because they enjoy themselves so much!

New pictures are being posted now the spring is here so visit back.

25th May 2007 Centenary Camps Minimize

Summary

In May 2007, Groups, Units, Districts, Counties/ Areas across the UK will be staging Centenary Camps to celebrate 2007. The aim is to get as many Members of the Movement under canvas at the same time. In Shropshire, Tern Valley District is holding its camp from fri 25th May to Mon 27th May.

CampingIdea/ Programme

The camps will be structured around the key date of 26 May 2007 and the local organisers will decide when their events will start before and when they will close beyond the date. This allows local flexibility where Bank Holidays or School Holidays may fit around this date.

The overall theme of the Camp will be Scouting through time Past, Present and Future.

The programme is non-prescriptive, allowing for differences in situation, needs, age-ranges represented and Leader skills.  We want the Centenary Camp programme to help young people enjoy their favourite camping activities as part of the Centenary programme. A factsheet is also available.

Aims & Objectives

To create the biggest gathering that has ever happened in the UK of young people simultaneously demonstrating the adventure that is Scouting.

The activity should also contribute in conjunction with other 2007 Events and Activities that are planned throughout the year to be instrumental in our local and national agenda for ‘Growth Recognition and Celebration’.

2007 is a significant milestone in the overall Scout Association vision towards 2012, which is a:

  1. Growing Movement – more adults to provide better Scouting for more young people
  2. Youth Movement – increased role for young people
  3. Focused Movement – on adventure
  4. Sound Movement – closer partnerships locally and nationally
  5. Relevant Movement – a Showcase for Scouting
  6. Diverse Movement – increasing participation from our diverse communities

Audience

The activity is aimed to attract as many Scouts within the UK to join in the fun and adventure of their own unique Centenary Camp.
